To be honest, I’m not sure if I’ve ever spent enough time appreciating who actually wrote a piece of work, that I’ve enjoyed, in the press. Apart from the odd few (…mainly the celebrity ones), I’ve yet to pick up on many great writing styles past or present. As a huge music fan, though, there has always been one writer that stood out to me. A music journalist and author named Mick Wall.

Regarded as one of the ‘foremost authorities on rock music in Britain’, he’s written for Kerrang!, Mojo, Select and the Daily Mail. He’s also presented programmes on Radio 1, Capital Radio and Planet Rock. I would advise any one with a spare minute or interest in good jounalism/music to check out his own blog! www.mickwall.com

He has this amazing style of writing where he documents stories, in such a creative yet realistic way. Whether you are interested in the subject he’s writing about, or not, you can’t help but read on thanks to his humorous if not, at times, somewhat disgustingly gritty metaphors.

As a music journalist, I admire everything about his style and I read anything of his I can get my hands on, but every brilliantly constructed feature makes me sickeningly jealous! Reading his work gives me that funny feeling of jealousy and excitement in the pit of my stomach…and that’s pretty much why I feel he’s the best journalist! at least in the music industry

At his high, Wall revolutionised music journalism to such extent that he was often personally asked to cover stories or interviews by the bands themselves.

Anyways…. in case this is starting to just sound like an advert for him, thought I’d share some thoughts on my favourite journalist!
